Ativan

Ativan

Ativan is an anxiety medication used for the treatment of moderate to severe anxiety, anxiety-related insomnia, and occasionally epilepsy. Anxiety and related symptoms are not just unpleasant feelings, but they can be debilitating, and anxiety disorders can severely impact people's day-to-day lives. There are different types of anxiety which affect people in different ways, and to varying degrees of severity. Living with anxiety shouldn't have to burden your life, and if you are finding that non-pharmacological measures such as breathing techniques are not adequate enough, you can buy Ativan online and start to get your life back on track.

What Ativan is Used for

Ativan is primarily used to treat anxiety as well as insomnia which results from anxiety. It is most commonly used for generalised anxiety disorder (GAD), periods of crisis, or panic attacks. GAD is characterised by the inability to stop worrying about lots of different things. They are usually worries that most people would not think about continuously, and they can bring on a sense of dread or you may feel like something awful is going to happen. Panic attacks can arise as a result of anxiety and they are characterised by an intense and overwhelming fear, with many people believing that they cannot breathe. Lorazepam 2 mg is used for anxiety and panic attack symptoms, and it can also be used to treat seizures, however this is usually in a hospital setting and administered by injection. It is also used as a pre-med before surgery to help people relax, but again this is only in a hospital setting.

How Ativan Works

Ativan, known commonly as lorazepam in the EU, is a benzodiazepine which has a similar mechanism of action as Valium or Xanax. Like other benzodiazepines, the medication targets benzodiazepine receptors which in turn increase the production and secretion of gamma amino-butyric acid (GABA). GABA is a central nervous system depressant which means it reduces excitatory signals in the brain, causing sedation. Specifically, the increase in GABA alters the neuronal membranes in the brain, by increasing how frequently the chloride ion channels open and by binding to voltage-dependent sodium channels. This reduces the electrical signals in the brain, which leads to sedation, relaxation, as well as reducing the surge of electrical activity that causes seizures.

How Long Ativan Lasts

Ativan is absorbed rapidly and completely and has a bioavailability of 90%. It begins to take effect after around 30 minutes and reaches peak concentration after 2 hours. It has an elimination half-life of around 14 hours, so the sedative effects will start to wear off after this amount of time. The rate of absorption and elimination half-life will vary from person to person depending on factors such as your height and weight, and metabolism.

Ativan 2 mg Dosage

Ativan 2 mg comes in tablet form and should be swallowed whole with a glass of water, ensuring you do not crush or chew it. If you take it long-term then you should take 1 tablet in the morning, re-dosing as necessary. You may wish to take 1 mg or 2 mg depending on the severity of your symptoms. You should space the doses out evenly throughout the day, and make sure you only take a maximum dose of 4 mg per day. If you miss a dose, you should wait until your next one is due rather than taking an extra one to make up for it, as this can be dangerous and potentially lead to an overdose. As it has a fairly long half-life, you should be able to keep your anxiety symptoms under control throughout the day. If you use it for insomnia, you should take 1 mg to 2 mg about an hour before you want to go to sleep. Dosage for epilepsy needs to be supervised by a specialist GP or neurologist.

Ativan 2 mg Side Effects

Ativan has the potential to cause some undesirable side effects, however these are usually mild and go away on their own. Common symptoms which affect more than 1 in 100 people include the following:

  • Drowsiness during the day
  • Reduced sense of coordination
  • Feeling weak

Very rarely, serious side effects can occur. These affect less than 1 in 1,000 people however and are more common in people aged over 65. Stop taking the medication and speak to your GP immediately if any of the following symptoms occur:

  • Hallucinations or delusions
  • Severe mood swings
  • Amnesia
  • Very shallow breathing
  • Yellowing of the skin and eyes
  • Repeatedly falling over

Some people will experience a severe allergic reaction called anaphylaxis; however this is extremely rare. Symptoms of anaphylaxis include blotchy skin on the face and neck, tightness in the chest and throat, wheezing, difficulty breathing, and swelling of the face and lips. In cases of anaphylaxis, you should call 999 immediately or go to A&E.

Who Should Avoid Ativan

Benzodiazepines are safe for most people over the age of 18, however there are certain groups who should avoid taking them. You should not buy Ativan if any of the following affect you:

  • You are allergic to benzodiazepines or any of the additional ingredients
  • You have been treated for addiction in the past
  • You are taking other benzodiazepine medication
  • You are taking opioid medication, such as tramadol or codeine
  • You are pregnant or breastfeeding

If you are unsure whether any of the above affects you, then you should consult your GP before starting treatment. Additionally, if any medication you are already taking contraindicates benzodiazepines, then you should not take them.

Before You Buy Ativan

Before you buy Ativan 2 mg or other anti-anxiety medication in the EU it is important to understand how the medication works and what is going to be the best treatment for you going forward and in the long term. For many people who suffer with anxiety and anxiety-related disorders, non-pharmacological techniques are not always sufficient on their own, and they need medication either in times of crisis or to function day-to-day.
